Things move pretty quickly in the gaming world; Sony’s PlayStation 4 was the undisputed king of console gaming a few years ago. Today, it is almost a year late, replaced by the PS5. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t games worthy of revisiting the now obsolete system.

Some of the most playable games in history are from the fourth generation of PlayStation. Between PlayStation’s very first mascot, a murderous treasure hunter and a web-launching superhero, there is more than enough reason to keep the PS4 connected for the foreseeable future.

The original Crash Bandicoot The trilogy on the first PlayStation console featured some of the best Naughty Dog games of all time, but the developer left the character soon after. Crash seemed to be doomed after that as it had moved from developer to developer. However, the remake of the first three games under the name N-Sane Trilogy introduced new, younger fans to the series and it kind of started a rebirth of Crash.

Crash Bandicoot 4 followed three years later, and it was true to the character and revisited some iconic locations while also introducing a few new and revamped mechanics. Between collecting the hundreds of gems, beating all the Flashback bands and replaying it all in “N-Verted” mode, Crash Bandicoot 4 was designed to be replayed.

9 Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)

Cinema related games are almost never good, as they are just another way to market the movie, but Spider-man 2 went beyond the PlayStation 2. There was a fully immersive New York City for gamers to move around, and it laid the groundwork for all Spider Man games to follow. As Spider-man 2 was one of the most playable games on PS2, Marvel’s Spider-Man is more addicting than almost any other PS4 game that came before it.

Just swing in the Big Apple in Marvel’s Spider-Man is fun and can consume hours, even days, of players’ time. The PS4 game not only takes what made the PS2 game so special, but it combines that web slinging and awesome NY rendering with Arkham Asylum-combat influenced. Racking up combos by beating the daylight thugs prevents players from wanting to take the game down.

8 Hitman II (2018)

From the first game, Hitman: code name 47, the series of assassins is infinitely replayable. The best thing about games is that there are hundreds of different ways to complete every mission and assassinate every target, and it’s never been truer than with Hitman II.

As for the latest trilogy in the series, they’re very close to perfect, and Hitman III is generally considered the best by fans and critics alike. But, while it may be true, Hitman II is even more replayable. Hitman II has the perfect balance between stealth and this very unique brand of Hitman humor, which was lacking in the third game.

7 Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End (2016)

Although some Redditors think Unexplored 4 is overrated, it is a small minority of the gaming community, as it is more replayable than any other Unexplored Game. Where previous games had fairly small areas, the locations in The end of a thief are, in some cases, bordering on the open world.

Considering the breadth of each level, it is even more difficult to find all of the collectible treasures in the game. However, one of the reasons to revisit the Madagascar chapter only is that there is an unlockable secret that will facilitate the search for treasures. If people knock over the Rock Cairns in Madagascar, they’ll unlock a special ability in which the DualShock vibrates whenever players are near a treasure.

6 Ghost of Tsushima (2020)

Ghost of Tsushima was, in some ways, the swan song of the PlayStation 4, as it was the last big game on the console. It took advantage of the capabilities of the console because it is one of the most breathtaking games on the console, has a huge open world, and features the best mechanics of any samurai game.

For gamers who wish to purchase the PlayStation 5, Ghost of Tsushima will make them forget that the console exists. It’s not fair because Tsushima has the most difficult bosses it’s replayable, but because Japanese culture and the first Mongol invasion are so immersive. There are also tons of collectibles to find and challenges to complete that will take months to complete.

5 Little Big Planet 3 (2014)

Little Big Planet 3 is a children’s game that adults shouldn’t be ashamed of to play. There is a lot of strategy involved in the platform game, and it not only helps kids learn to think logically, but it’s also an incredibly detailed puzzle game for adults.

The emphasis is on creativity in the game, as players build their own levels, characters, and even vehicles, which keeps players of all ages coming back to it again and again. Of all the video games described as a “sandbox,” this is no more true than with Little Big Planet 3because it is essentially a virtual sandbox.

4 Cities: horizons (2015)

When it was first released in 2013, the highly anticipated Sim City the reboot had game issues such as server errors and an obnoxious requirement to always be online. On top of that, there wasn’t much room for creativity, as cities worked best if buildings and roads were built like standard street blocks.

However, Cities: horizons followed two years later, and it was a huge improvement over competitor EA. The game was more realistic, but it didn’t come at the expense of entertainment, and it’s widely regarded as one of the best simulators of the console generation. Over a hundred hours could easily be swallowed up in the game without even realizing it, and that’s just about traffic jams.

3 Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)

Rockstar is at the forefront of open world games, but as the developer puts more and more detail into each game, its release becomes less frequent. Red Dead Redemption 2 was released eight years after its predecessor, but while the most obsessive fans might have been impatiently twiddling their thumbs, the game was full of content.

Much like the first game in the series, players travel through a giant desert landscape full of shootouts, heists, and horseback riding, along with hundreds of completely unique NPCs. The game is so big that the casual gamer probably wouldn’t 100% complete it before Red dead 3 is released, whenever it can be.

2 Dishonored 2 (2016)

Dishonored 2 became an instant hit, as it was a stealth game like no other. Players have supernatural powers that allow them to manipulate time and partially see into the future. But, players can choose to forgo these powers, which makes the game more difficult and adds to the replay value.

Not only that, but the stealth game is similar to Hitman series in which players can choose their own paths, of which there are many, to assassinate targets. Players can also choose to refrain from killing while playing throughout the game using non-lethal stealth. The levels could be replayed ten times without doing the same thing once.

1 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015)

In the same way Hitman and Dishonored 2, Metal Gear Solid V is another stealth video game that will keep gamers awake until the early hours of the morning. Interestingly, of all the genres, it’s the stealth games that tend to be the most replayable. But, that does make sense, as most of the time spent thinking logically and doing even the smallest thing differently could change the gamers’ entire path, creating a completely different course of action.

However, Metal Gear Solid V is more than just a stealth game. It combines many different game mechanics, as there is a sandbox level of freedom, taking place in the open world of Soviet-occupied Afghanistan. There is no shortage of customization options either, which is why Solid metal gear V is better than IV.

Final Fantasy VII was a game of firsts.

It was the first Final Fantasy launched on PlayStation. It was the first Final Fantasy to be made in 3D. It was the first to include CG movie cutscenes that allowed the team to reach a truly global audience and deliver a new kind of gaming experience.

It is, it’s fair to say, a very special game for the fans and the Square Enix team. I have worked as Game Director and am excited that a whole new generation can experience it on PS Now.

Final Fantasy VII first premiered in 1997, but its content has a timeless appeal that is relevant at all times. I think that’s why the game still has so many fans today – and the fact that the series continues with titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is because of their support.

Launching the original game on PS Now made me reflect on its development, and the PlayStation team asked me to share some of those memories with all of you.

The origins of Final Fantasy VII

During the development of Final Fantasy VII, the games industry began to shift from 2D to 3D, mainly focused on titles developed in Europe and North America. We wanted to produce a title that would take advantage of this new dimension to bring the characters and the story to life more vividly than ever in the series.

We were also starting to get interested in 3D CG. We had the desire to make the Final Fantasy series something that would stand up for decades to come.

We were able to achieve these two ambitions thanks to a new player in the console market: the PlayStation system.

Working on PlayStation for the first time gave us opportunities that we hadn’t considered before. One of the biggest draws was the massive capacity (at least at the time!) Of CD-ROMs.

We packed Final Fantasy VII with a large volume of movie cutscenes, which improved storytelling and allowed us to showcase a world in more detail than any previous game. The decision to include these film scenes was only possible thanks to the memory offered by the CD-ROMs.

On the other hand, working with new technology has posed challenges for us. Games on CD ROM usually took a long time to load. We worked extremely hard and had to really innovate to make sure load times didn’t feel too long when transitioning between battles and movie scenes.
