Expert behind popular PlayStation 5 stock account revealed as he outlines where to find the console in 2022

An expert behind a popular PlayStation 5 account that has successfully helped thousands of people get their hands on Sony’s hottest console ever has exclusively shared his tips for the year ahead.

Those who follow the verified account, Stock PS5 UK on Twitter, probably wondered who’s behind the blue tick and how they get insider knowledge on all things PlayStation 5.

Well, the Manchester Evening News was lucky enough to speak to the expert who not only owns the reputable account, which has over 218,000 subscribers, but also Stock Checker – which tracks console stock at retailers around the world .

Meet 21-year-old Talha Sonmez.

The avid gamer didn’t expect to be such an expert on the subject, but found himself in the midst of a global phenomenon that is the PlayStation 5, not to mention the owner of a successful British business and a social media account before age. of 25.

Let’s find out more about the person who is probably the reason a PS5 is installed in your home.

Talha, from London, shared his predictions below on launches this year, what could come next for Sony, which retailers have been the best and worst for stock, and why he’s dedicating his time to helping others.

where it all started

Play station 5

The PlayStation 5 was officially launched in the UK on November 19, 2020 and it quickly became the most requested console.

Its launch was not without problems, however.

The coronavirus pandemic as well as inventory and production issues have made the PlayStation 5 incredibly difficult to obtain.

Covid-19 also meant that fewer employees were working in Sony factories to produce the game chips and build the consoles, leading to a slower rate of production.

Then also came a global chip shortage, meaning there weren’t enough chips being produced to make more consoles.

Talha noticed this problem and therefore created the PS5 Stock UK Twitter account on December 3, 2020, after successfully securing his own PS5.

“I wanted to help other players get theirs instead of going through the pain of not being able to buy one, especially before Christmas for those who celebrate it,” Talha said.

“It was a passionate help, from one player to many others.”

Due to her mission to help others, her followers started to increase and soon Talha was inundated with messages asking where was the best place to get a PS5 and when.

According to Talha, Amazon has been the number one best retailer when it comes to PS5 online deliveries.

Why? Next day delivery.

Although their sales were restricted to Amazon Prime members, users were able to participate by signing up for a 14-day free trial, this way they can also enjoy next day delivery on any products they order.

Talha also explains that the fact that Amazon makes standalone consoles and no bundles (an accessory or PS5 plus game) and fast servers, means the website doesn’t crash for users.

“If I had to rank in the top three, I’d say Amazon is best overall,” he said.

“PS Direct and BT would take second place for invite-only deliveries, as they both have powerful servers and a seamless queuing/shopping experience, with standalone, quality bundles, and I would say Very would be third place.”

Not all retailers have gotten drops online, however, and many customers have been frustrated when trying to get their hands on a PS5 from these sites, says Talha.

“One of them is definitely Currys,” he said.

“Their VIP invite program was atrocious. Code winners had to wait about two months to pick up their PS5, while other customers from other retailers received theirs within two weeks of ordering, some even days. “

A Currys spokesperson responded to this and said: “The Currys PS5 VIP program was designed to give genuine customers the opportunity to purchase this coveted console by removing the bot issue and reducing the risk of scalpers. .

“After registering online, customers were notified when a PS5 allowance was made available to Currys and ready to be picked up in store using their unique code.

“Our PS5 VIP program has been applauded by customers and the tech industry for the fairness of the process.

“We have experienced a two-week delay in delivering certain consoles to stores for customer collection in Fall 2021, but only 1% of our total PS5 customers were affected by this delay. We apologized to all affected customers for the inconvenience. ”

AO has also received complaints for not adding an “Add to Cart” button to their online PS5 offerings.

“It was like this from the official launch of the PS5 until recently when they just started showing the button to customers,” Talha explained.

“For nearly a year, we had to find and explain techniques to bypass a non-payment button and add the console to your cart, through HTML tricks/inspect element.”

GAME has been one retailer that has had the most frequent online PlayStation 5 drops, but that doesn’t mean they’ve necessarily been good, Talha says.

“Yes, they drop frequently, but the packages they offer are ridiculous.

“They include PlayStation merchandise with 95% of customers (of my audience) not wanting the merchandise, as well as high priced bundles with games at full price even though the game is cheaper to buy on its own, literally from GAME themselves.

“They also offer crazy delivery charges of £10 and £20 which I find absurd, especially for a product that customers pay over £500 for.”

AO and GAME have been approached for comment.

Application for the PS5

The demand is not only due to the global chip shortage and the pandemic, but also to the price.

Talha said: “The price of the PS5 is affordable for the performance it delivers, compared to a PS4 or PS3 when first released starting at £500-600 when new.

“Sony this time chose to ‘make it affordable so everyone has an approach’ where they wouldn’t make a lot of profit, which they would then recoup through subscriptions and games, increasing their user base and their income.”

Talha also experienced the request.

Three months after creating the Twitter account, PS5 Stock UK, Talha launched the Stock Checker company.

The site tracks the availability of game consoles, from the PS5 to Xbox, Nintendo and more, across a variety of UK retail stores and websites.

Talha added, “As someone who suffers from heavy OCD and prefers to be professional even for hobbies and passionate things, I decided to take it to the next level by launching Stock Checker to show our audience that I am serious and there to help. “

The 21-year-old has been playing since he was eight years old, his first consoles being the PlayStation 1 and Nintendo DS Lite in red.

Now he owns a gaming PC, PS5, OLED Switch and Oculus Quest 2.

He said: “I’ve always been interested in technology, always.

“That’s my biggest interest besides video games and cars. I don’t know how to describe why I’m so interested, I am.

“I find it really fascinating how technology works, what functions it has, how companies compete with each other on it, and the list goes on.

“One thing I love, and probably my favorite part, like most people, is the unboxing experience.

“A good product will satisfy you just by the unboxing experience, and using this new technology for the first time, I love it, if only I could afford all the technology, I’d be unboxing it all day!”

The future of the PS5

“I personally think that Covid-19 has been around for a long time and as long as such viruses are around, along with the shortage of chips, this issue will reoccur in future console releases,” Talha added, “like PS6, or even PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro, if Sony plans to make it a reality.”

All of this though, in a way, adds to Talha’s passion for helping others get the consoles they want.

He said: “They say, do what you love to love it and help others, and the rewards will automatically follow.

“I am proud that a large number of customers come to Stock Checker for the latest advice/updates on consoles, technologies and games.

“They have every right not to trust Stock Checker, but they do, and they should, because I’m all for those who want to buy these products for their friends and family, or for themselves. themselves, rather than paying crazy prices on aftermarkets.”
