How PSP games feel on a OnePlus 7T with an emulator

Sony first released the iconic PlayStation Portable in 2004 and over the years the company has revised the console and released various variations. The final PSP Street version was released in 2011. While the console is no longer manufactured today, the support and ecosystem of the PSP are the joy of gamers. Back then, buying a PSP game was expensive.

Steps to download the PPSSPP app
1. Visit the Google Play Store from your Android smartphone
2. Look for PPSSPP in the store
3. Select the standard PPSSPP application.
4. Tap install.

But as I found out, if you want to play PSP games on your smartphone, you can do so using an emulator. PSP has a large catalog of games and if you still have your collection, you can easily load them using an Android emulator. I used to play a lot of games and my favorite consoles were the PSP and Nintendo DS Lite. So I tried to revisit the experience by downloading the PPSSPP-PSP emulation application from the Google Play Store, on my OnePlus 7T. Here’s all you need to know.

Note: There are two versions of the app available on the Play Store; a standard version and a pro version (paid). Both versions offer the same set of features. You can download the standard version first and if you like the experience, you can get the pro version later to help the developer.

What has been my experience playing PSP games on my OnePlus 7T?
Playing PSP games on my OnePlus 7T was nostalgic. But the experience has been mixed. I tried playing the GTA Vice City Stories and Dragon Ball Z – Shin Budokai 2 games. Although the games went well and I didn’t notice a lot of jitter, the experience of playing them was not. not fluid. This is regarding the limitations of the application which configure virtual buttons to replace the physical buttons of the PSP.

After installing the game, you can play virtually any PSP game on your Android smartphone. If you have access to the PSP games in your collection in ISO format, you can run them on the app.

What it lacks in terms of resolution by today’s standards, the PSP makes up for it with excellent controls, gameplay mechanics, and well-structured games. So, to sum up, playing PSP games on a smartphone is by no means an unpleasant experience, if you want to relive your childhood. But if you want the best experience, you’d better stick with the original console itself, if that’s still possible.
