Microsoft has something Sony doesn’t have this holiday season

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the busiest time in the game is brewing. With countless new game releases coming this fall, gamers will need to carefully choose which titles they’ll spend the rest of 2021 with. As pictured on both the Xbox Showcase and Live Opening Night at Gamescom this week, Microsoft is planning a number of major releases for the Xbox x series for the rest of the year. Surprisingly, Sony doesn’t have a lot of PS5 exclusives, which makes for an interesting end of the year for the company.

It’s important to note that exclusives aren’t the only things that make the new consoles so desirable, but they certainly help, especially since this will be the first full holiday season for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Compared to last year’s PS5. range, things seem pretty bare for the console, which is directly juxtaposed with the amount of content coming to Xbox platforms in the last few months of the year.

Microsoft and Sony Vacation 2020

The 2020 holidays have been an exciting time for games as it saw the releases of the Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5. With Infinite halo Being delayed to 2021, there really wasn’t much that the new Xbox offered that couldn’t be done on the PS5. Additionally, the PS5 had a handful of exclusive and improved titles to try out when it launched. Demon souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Astro’s playroom were all quality experiences that could only be had on PlayStation consoles. As a result, many people didn’t see the allure of the new Xbox, as nothing was available on the platform that couldn’t be found elsewhere, despite the console’s superior hardware.

Flashing impatiently for the next 2021 vacation and the roles are completely reversed; the Xbox Series X and S have a lot of games coming up in the coming months while the PlayStation 5 doesn’t have a lot. Currently the console has two titles slated for 2021 releases with Death loop coming September 14 and Kena: Bridge of Spirits the next on September 21. While these are two titles that PlayStation fans have been thrilled to play, they’re not really holiday season, leaving things open for November and December.

Moreover, although both Death loop and Kena: Bridge of Spirits have been highly anticipated since they were showcased during the first PlayStation 5 reveal events, neither game has the same level of connected stopping power as other bigger PlayStation exclusives. It seems like Horizon: West prohibited was supposed to be PlayStation’s holiday blockbuster, but its recent delay pushed it back to February 2022 and beyond the holiday season.

It seems unlikely that Sony will release a surprise version for the remaining months of the year, as it’s hard to imagine what the company has up its sleeve that could compete with Infinite haloDecember 8 release date. In addition, Xbox has a lot more than Halo coming to its platforms this year, with games like Forza Horizon 5 and Age of Empires 4 leading the charge released by the first part.

All is not lost for Sony

DualSense with Astro

It’s also important to note that it would make sense for Sony to tone things down in terms of PS5 releases for the rest of the year for three reasons. The first is that the demand for PS5 has not declined and does not appear to be picking up any time soon. Consoles are always extremely difficult for customers to buy, so the company doesn’t have to worry about making the console more desirable.

Sony has also already had an amazing year in terms of AAA exclusives with games like Return, Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Ingergrade and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart wowing PS5 owners, so the need for a big vacation outing is only superficial and ignores the other big titles that came to the system earlier in the year. Finally, everything that has been moved in 2022, like Horizon: Forbidden West, the untitled God of the war suite, and Gran Turismo 7, will make an even stronger year next year.

The Xbox x series is available now.
