MLB The Show 22 hits shelves on April 5, but Xbox users have a way to play the game earlier than expected and enjoy some cool perks too.
For a second consecutive year, MLB The Show 22 will be available on Xbox Game Pass, but this time it’s a day one featured release. Last year, MLB The Show 21 became playable for all Xbox users, moving away from its PlayStation exclusive of previous years.
This year’s installment has a few advantages, one being that MLB The Show 22 will be purchasable at the official launch on April 5. The other is an offer for Game Pass members to pick up the game during its early access phase at a discount compared to buying the game at full price.
Although the game is free starting April 5, Xbox users have the option to pay $49.99 to get the game four days early, and it will be accessible on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions. The offer has its perks, which mostly revolve around the in-game content that players can collect. Purchase MLB The Show 22 sooner lets players jump into the game 96 hours before everyone else, but it also grants every player two Gold Choice packs, ten Show packs, a Ballplayer pack, as well as Double Daily login rewards and 10k Stubs. For those who enjoy The Show’s online modes and collecting items, the extra content is a must for early game progression.
This should come as no surprise to Game Pass users, as Microsoft has already tested this idea with Forza Horizon 5. In October 2021, the developer released the game to its player base four days ahead of schedule as part of an early access promotion. A little like MLB The Show 22purchasing the game at a discounted price came with a bundle of in-game content including a welcome pack, car pass, VIP membership and two game expansions, which were not available at the time but scheduled for launch at a later date. Forza Horizon 5 became a huge hit, and the early access edition was praised by Game Pass users at the time.
One area of concern, however, is the fact that games released on Xbox Game Pass are only available to users for free, as long as the title remains on the service. Users might be able to breathe easier knowing that last year’s edition remained on Game Pass all year, and that might be the case this time around as well. MLB The Show 22 is less than a week away from its official launch, which will also be available on the Nintendo Switch for the first time, and is gearing up to be a game baseball fans won’t want to miss. For players in online mode, the early access pack might be worth paying a bit more, especially with the extra playtime.
MLB The Show 22 releases April 5 on PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
