Pennsylvania State Police release details of Interstate 81 weekend crashes

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) has released details regarding two crashes that occurred in the same area of ​​Interstate 81 on Saturday, May 28 in Cumberland County.

The first accident occurred on Interstate 81 Northbound at mile 49.3 at 3:57 p.m. According to a public information release, the accident involved a motorcycle driven by Joshua Hill of Alabama following too closely an SUV driven by Kalim Johnson of Maryland.

As Johnson began to slow due to approaching traffic, Hill put Johnson in the back. Subsequently, Hill was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital where his injuries were unknown at the time of release. Johnson was not injured in the accident.

Southbound lanes in the same area of ​​I-81 were also closed for a time shortly after the northbound crash. However, PSP has not released any details regarding this crash at this time.

According to a tweet from Cumberland Goodwill EMS, at least 9 people were injured. This incident was labeled as a mass casualty incident after the second accident.
