But what can we expect from the new generation console in terms of firmware? While the past year has provided a number of welcome updates, there are still a number of highly requested features that have yet to be implemented.
Take a look at the latest major system software update for the PS5 below!
Speaking at the CES 2022 hardware exhibit earlier this week, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan gave fans a brief update on what we can expect from the firmware updates for the PS5 in 2022. While it hasn’t given away much, it has confirmed that a much-requested feature is coming. soon: PlayStation tournaments.
Originally announced in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation Tournaments were created in collaboration with esports organizer ESL. The feature has allowed players to participate in certain games for special prizes, essentially allowing players around the world to adopt a more competitive playstyle without having to participate in official tournaments – or leave home.
Ryan stopped short of confirming what sort of form this new tournament feature will take, but it’s probably safe to assume it won’t be any different than it was on PS4.
No doubt gamers will be able to jump into games to both watch and actively participate, as PlayStation continues to push into the esports space. More news on the feature is expected later this year.
