PlayStation Plus subscribers slam ‘insulting’ free game

When the February free PlayStation Plus games were announced, many PS plus subscribers were immediately unhappy with the offer. Now many subscribers are even more upset. If you missed the announcement, February’s free PS Plus games are Planet Coaster, EA Sports UFC 4and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. The former is the PS5 deal of the month, while the latter two games are the PS4 deal of the month. It was the newest of these games that sparked the initial backlash of being 9-year-old DLC for a 10-year-old game. And it was the most recent of those games that also sparked the second wave of backlash.

Over on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page, a PS Plus subscriber revealed a detail about Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep which angered subscribers even more. As you can see via the image below, the first screen that greets players when they load up the 9 year old DLC is a pre-order screen for The wonders of Tiny Tinawhich will be released in March as a successor to Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.

From a promotion and marketing point of view this sure makes sense, but for PS Plus subscribers it certainly adds insult to injury.

Not only was getting DLC like one of this month’s games insulting, it’s the first screen we get when we load the “game”…. from PlayStation Plus

As you might expect, the original poster isn’t the only one hampered by this bold promotion. Many in the responses are also unhappy.

“Yeah, that’s pretty bad,” one follower wrote. “I didn’t even realize it was Borderlands 2 DLC since I skipped it. Tired of this shit every month.”

“The fact that this type of aggressive monetization is now the norm in the gaming industry is mind-blowing,” the most popular response adds.

So far, none of the parties involved have responded to this backlash in any capacity. We don’t expect that to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we’ll be sure to update the story accordingly.
