[Poll results] Should Microsoft and Netflix bring Party Mode back to Xbox?

New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….

The original story (published May 28, 2021) follows:

While people in most countries have started to return to normal lives after the coronavirus outbreak, many are still stuck at home for the most part.

And to get right to the point right now, there’s no better time than now for Microsoft and Netflix to bring Party Mode back to the Xbox platform.

In case you didn’t know, Party Mode was a feature introduced on Xbox in 2009 that allowed Netflix fans to watch or stream their favorite shows and movies with their friends and family in a virtual theater.

What really made the feature incredibly popular at the time was the inclusion of custom avatars and the ability to use emoticons to describe reactions.

Small details like these are what attracted many Netflix and Xbox users to the Party Mode feature during the short time it was available.

Unfortunately, Microsoft had other plans for its Xbox consoles since removal of the Party Mode feature with the Metro TV update which launched on December 6, 2011.

Microsoft informed Kotaku that the feature has been removed because the app platform does not support the core functionality. Here is part of the statement:

The new app platform on Xbox doesn’t support the Video Party mode feature at this time, so it won’t be available in any of the existing app partners who have updated their app and none of the new ones. Xbox app partners.

But now, a decade later, Microsoft and Netflix shouldn’t be a monumental task to shake hands and bring Party Mode back to the Xbox platform, at least that is what one might assume.

In fact, some Xbox ambassadors on community forums also want Microsoft and Netflix to bring the feature back to the platform.

Apart from that, thousands of Xbox users who remember using the feature at the time are also keen to see it return. There is even a petition for Microsoft and Netflix to bring it back.

Three years ago a Publish on Reddit asking people if they would like to see the feature return to Xbox garnered 13.8 thousand upvotes and 540 comments.

Now another Publish on Reddit demanding the return of Xbox nights Netflix has made many fans nostalgic.

This is honestly what kept a friendship at bay for me. I had two buddies who lived out of state and we would all watch movies together sometimes and roast them Mystery Science Theater style. It was a great feature. (Source)

It was a great outlet for my friends and I from across the country to watch all the terrible movies and enjoy them together. It would have been perfect during lockdowns last year! (Source)

Ugh, I couldn’t agree with that anymore. It was such a fun feature and I don’t know why they wouldn’t bring it back! (Source)

While internet users are generally divided on most topics, it’s good to see a whole community agree on one thing – and that is that Microsoft or Netflix is bringing Party Mode back to Xbox.

A few other services have popped up to fill the void left by Teleparty and Rave, but nowhere are they as good as the original. Plus, these services aren’t even available on Xbox.

That being said, would you love to see Microsoft and Netflix bring back the feature, or do you think it’s just not worth it?

You can share your views in the comments below or even vote in the poll below. The results should be available after a week.

Update 1 (June 7)

The end results are known and it is interesting to say the least. Majority (55.6%) say they don’t care about the functionality while 22.2% say they want it back and the remaining 22.2% say they don’t want the Netflix Party Xbox mode is coming back.
