PS4, PS5, Barbie and Lego are the most wanted toys in the world

Although the PS5 has just celebrated its first anniversary, recent data shows that children are choosing its predecessor, the PlayStation 4, for Christmas this year.

While the PS5 may be the newest model, the PlayStation 4 is the most popular toy in most countries around the world, but it faces competition from other major toy brands that feature in tops wishlists this year.

Toy market researchers, TheToyZone, analyzed Google search data from around the world to see what toys anxious parents are looking for in every country around the world, and mapped out each favorite toy in each category so Santa could spot a winner for your little angels.

In Europe, it was clear that the lockdown didn’t just boost games: it also boosted Lego sales.

Lego has proven to be the most popular toy in 11 European countries, edging out the PS5 (ten countries) and the PS4 (nine).

While the Danish toy has been hugely popular for decades, its recent pairing with gaming giant Nintendo to launch the best-selling Super Mario starter set is believed to have firmly placed the brand at the top of wish lists everywhere.

In the UK, the X Box Series X was the most searched toy on Google, while in the Netherlands it was the Nintendo Switch.

The most sought after traditional toy in the UK was Scalextric.

Armenia has broken with the tech trope, however, with Barbie being the most sought-after toy on the internet.

Norway’s favorite was Nerf products, while Austria, Cyprus, Greece and Andorra were fond of Playmobil.

In America, the PS5 reigned supreme, while the X Box X proved to be the most popular in Canada.

The most wanted toy in Mexico was Funko Pop products and in Guatemala it was Hot Wheels.

The majority of countries in North America voted for the PlayStation 4.

The PS5 isn’t even among the most sought-after toys in South American countries.

But the PS4 takes first place in four countries, tied with an older rival: Barbie – for whom Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Paraguay have gone mad.

In the Middle East and Central Asia, the PlayStation 4 and PS5 dominated toy trends, followed by Barbie and Lego.
