Bethesda’s New Game Starfield may not be coming to PlayStation consoles, according to a new report. Instead, it will likely be exclusive to Xbox consoles and PCs, following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda. If that’s true, it wouldn’t come as a surprise, but it will likely still disappoint PlayStation-based fans.
Starfield is Bethesda’s mysterious new IP address, first announced at E3 in 2018. We’ve never really heard anything else about it until now, but a new game from such a big company known for having so many other great games is always exciting. Next to Starfield, we also know that Bethesda is working on Ancient scrolls 6, and if this The game turns out to be exclusive, I duck under a rock to protect myself from the resulting explosion of fans.
The report comes from GamesBeat, with Jeff Grubb pointing out that Xbox‘s Phil Spencer specifically said during the acquisition period that the company intended to use Bethesda games to increase the Xbox Game Pass audience. If Starfield becomes an Xbox Game Pass launch title, I don’t think I could call it anything other than a hit. Grubb adds, “A successful version of the game from the team that made The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is best if Microsoft sees it as an investment in a larger service. “
It is always possible that Starfield is a stopwatch console exclusive, which means it will eventually be released on PlayStation, but I doubt it one way or another. Microsoft has shown how closely related the two companies are – the slogan, so to speak, of the acquisition was “We have always been fans; now we are family– so it does not seem likely to me that he will give up enough control of his newly acquired intellectual property to be competitive. But maybe the spirit of inclusiveness and camaraderie in the game will prevail. I have been wrong before.
