Teams respond, coroner called for Greene Township house fire

Three people were found dead at the scene of a fire at a house on Sampson Road in Greene Township on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

State Police Soldier Cindy Schick of the Meadville Detachment said three people were found inside the house, which was involved in the blaze. Schick couldn’t say whether the fire was the cause of death or not.

“There was a house fire with three people dead inside the house,” Schick said. “At this point, we need to do more interviews to identify who these victims are.”

The fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. at 9656 Sampson Road, a house just across from Eriez Speedway.

Erie County Deputy Chief Coroner Nick Rekitt was called to the scene.

State police at the scene said the Erie County coroner was called to the scene of a fire in the 9600 block of Sampson Road in Greene Township on Tuesday.

Volunteers from several local volunteer fire companies, including Kuhl Hose, Waterford, Wattsburg, Perry Hi-Way, Kearsarge and Brookside, were dispatched to the scene.

The fire was reportedly brought under control by firefighters before 3 p.m. Further details were not immediately available.

Schick said the PSP Criminal Investigation Unit and the PSP Fire Marshal were investigating the incident.
